Clark Bear

Capt. William Clark of the Corps of

Discovery. He and Capt. Lewis spent the

winter of 1804 - 1805 near present-day

Washburn, North Dakota. Their stay with the

Hidatsa Tribe made this the longest time spent

in any state during the famed expedition west-

ward to the Pacific Ocean. It was here that

Lewis & Clark would meet Sacajawea who

would help guide them in their journey.
